In 2022, Workforce Readiness requires attention to both WHAT you do (economic ROI) and WHO you are (mental health ROI). Economic success of business, education/students, family & community will be determined by our attentiveness to the mental health crisis. In my role as an advocate for “Listening from the Heart,” I made a commitment during Mental Health Awareness Month to become certified in ADULT MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID USA from the National Council For Mental Wellbeing. This training added a layer of education, training, and awareness around how to help someone experiencing a mental health or substance abuse challenge. IT FILLED A GAP in my KNOWLEDGE, RESOURCES, AND CONFIDENCE to know when to move from listening mode to referring others to mental health resources and professionals. And it provided the resources to build that bridge for those in need. I have already put it to use. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT for individuals and as AN EMPLOYER PROVIDED RESOURCE THAT WILL BENEFIT YOUR WORKFORCE AND THEIR FAMILIES. “This week, a Harvard Business Review story identified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) as the most popular program of its kind available, and Mental Health First Aid at Work is a corporate training program based on MHFA that teaches participants how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges among colleagues and direct reports on the job.”
